Learning Goal: I will use the brainstorming phase of the writing process to create a six word memoir so that I practice the skill of generating ideas. 1. Fun Friday - six word memoirs - design your own and share on this padlet 2. Blog work time
- please fill out this form so Ms Weir knows your blog address - you should aim to have one post finished by the end of the weekend as we will be sharing with Huron next week 3. Novel selection time Learning Goal: I will use my listening skills and critical thinking to assess what makes an effective/ineffective presentation
Learning Goal: I will use my time effectively so that I am able to demonstrate the responsibility learning skill. 1. Peer Editing Work Time - for the first 20 minutes of the period, I would like you to share your paragraph with one of your peers and have them read it and provide you with feedback. - use the commenting feature in Google Docs to share your thinking. - remember though that feedback isn't "good job" - that's praise and useful for making someone feel good, but not helpful for improving their skills. - here's a screen shot from the article linked above: - take some time to reflect on the feedback you received and choose whether to incorporate it or not
- if you choose not to use it, please reply to the comment to explain why you are choosing not to use that suggestion 2. Listening Diagnostic - if you have not already done so, please complete the listening diagnostic - the spoken word poem and link to the Google Form are on Feb 11 - note: make sure to answer it on our 1H task site - if you do the 2H, the form goes to Mr. Bieronski 3. Blog Writing Time - I would like you to spend some time writing your first blog post (if you have already written one, please write a second one) - your goal here is: to write a series of paragraphs expressing an opinion about any of the following ideas: something you feel passionate about / are thinking about / are wondering about / are wanting to learn more about / etc. (there is a lot of freedom here) - I would start it in Google Drive then when it's finished, move it to your Weebly site - if you're stumped, you're welcome to check out my latest blog post which is a series of paragraphs expressing an opinion related to a news article I read over the weekend Feel free to chat with me in the Google Hangout as well if you have a question. Learning Goal: I will effectively share my thinking verbally so that my peers will be able to understand my thinking.
1. Media Diagnostic Presentations - you and your group will share your thinking with the class - be sure to completely explain your vision - how does your piece express / represent / or visually depict your point - be prepared for feedback from me as well as your peers 2. Writing Diagnostic Peer Feedback - find a partner in the room and share your paragraphs - using the commenting feature, please identify a strength in their paragraph as well as one or two areas for growth - we are going to be doing this very often so try to be specific - for example don't use "good job" as it is vague and doesn't really mean anything -> a better option is something like "I really liked your topic sentence as it engaged me as a reader." 3. Book Task Discussion - we are going to be reading a book over the next four weeks - at this point, I would like you to find one that is interesting to you - it can be fiction or non-fiction - there are only two requirements: needs to be at an appropriate reading level (ie is challenging to you) and a book that you have not read before - we are going to use it in blogging as well as in being able to identify and deconstruct themes Learning Goal: I will use my critical thinking and inferencing skills so that I can draw a fully supported conclusion.
1. Fun Friday Activity - as Sunday is Valentine's Day, I thought it only appropriate that our Fun Friday activity relates to this Hallmark holiday - last year, this article went viral - it is based on one woman's experience with these 36 questions - the questions are broken into three sets so with a partner, you will take one set and examine the questions to make one or more inferences as to why these specific questions might cause two people to fall in love, but also why this article has gone viral (what does this say about our society?) - Note: we are thinking about the questions, not looking for love connections here... - be ready to share your thinking with the class 2. Work time - media diagnostic - peer editing of writing diagnostic - listening diagnostic (on yesterday's task list) |
